Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your account, ensuring that even if someone obtains your password, they cannot access your account. Enabling 2FA is simple and highly recommended for protecting your digital assets. This article will walk you through the steps to enable and disable 2FA using Google Authenticator.

Step-by-Step Guide to Enable 2FA

Important note: 2FA can only be activated if email/phone number is verified.

Step 1: Download an Authentication App

Start by downloading an authentication app on your smartphone. Google Authenticator is a reliable choice for generating secure codes.

Step 2: Set Up Your 2FA

  1. Log in to your account.

  2. Navigate to Global settings > Security > Two-factor authentication.

  3. Click on "Enable 2FA"

  4. Verify your account using your phone number or email.

  5. Verify your account using your phone number or email.

  6. Using your authenticator app, scan the QR code or enter the key manually into the app.

  7. Enter your password and 6-digit verification code from the authenticator app and click "Enable". Do keep in mind that the authentication code is refreshed every 30 seconds.

  8. A notification of success will pop up on the top right corner of the website.

  9. On your security page, the Two-factor authentication tile will now show a green tick. The "enable 2FA" button will also be changed to "Disable 2FA".

Step 3: Ensure Accurate Code Generation

To prevent time-related errors, sync the time settings in Google Authenticator:

  1. Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.

  2. Select Settings > Time correction for codes > Sync now.

Congratulations! You’ve successfully activated 2FA on your account. This extra layer of security significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access. Always keep your 2FA app and secret key secure to maintain maximum protection for your account.
